Make an idle tycoon game

An idle game is one that keeps playing itself: you earn, reinvest in upgrades, hire help, and come back to find the numbers higher. Tycoon games add a place you build up, like a shop, a factory or a mine. Modder's AI idle game maker builds both, including the hardest part, an economy that stays fun after the first ten minutes.

Building an idle game

  1. Pick the thing that makes money

Every idle game has one: ore, burgers, lemonade, clean cars. Say what it is, how the player makes the first bit by hand, and what they spend it on. The theme matters more than you'd think, because it decides what the upgrades are called and what the world looks like.

  2. It builds the loop and the economy

The builder sets up earning, a shop of upgrades with rising prices, helpers who earn on their own, and progress that saves. Then it plays the game and checks the numbers: how long until the first upgrade, whether anything becomes useless, when the player hits a wall.

  3. Balance it by feel

Play for five minutes and say how it felt. "The second upgrade takes too long", "add a prestige reset", "show a pop-up with what I earned while away". Idle games get better with every small balance pass, and every pass is a saved version.

What makes an idle game hold up

Idle games look simple and are easy to get wrong. Prices that rise too fast make the game stall; too slow and there's nothing to aim for. Good ones give you a new thing to unlock every minute or two at first, then open a bigger layer (a new level of the mine, a second restaurant, a prestige reset) just as the first starts to feel slow.

The builder starts from those rules and lets you change them in plain words. Because the game saves in the browser, you can close the tab and come back to see your offline earnings, the moment every idle game is built around.

Idle, clicker or tycoon

Clicker games put the tap first and the automation second. Idle games are mostly automation. Tycoon games add a place you see grow: a 3D shop, factory or mine you walk around. Say which you want, or mix them: Ore Empire Tycoon is a walkable 3D tycoon with idle earnings on top.

What it does well, and what it doesn't

Good at

  • Economies with upgrades, rising prices, helpers and a prestige reset.
  • Progress that saves, with offline earnings when you come back.
  • 3D tycoons you can walk around, as well as flat clicker screens.

Current limits

  • Very long progressions (weeks of play) need several balance passes after the first build.
  • No real-money purchases inside games: upgrades are bought with in-game money.
  • Saves live in the browser; a free account keeps them across visits on the same site.

Questions

Can the game earn money while the player is away?

Yes. Progress saves, and the game can work out what you earned while the tab was closed and show it when you return.

Can I add a prestige or rebirth system?

Yes. Ask for it in plain words, with what the player gives up and what they get, and the builder adds it to the economy and the shop.

Can I make a 3D tycoon instead of a clicker?

Yes. Describe the place you build up and say you want to walk around it. Ore Empire Tycoon and Burger Tycoon are both 3D.

How do I balance the numbers?

Play it and describe what felt slow or too fast. The builder adjusts prices, rates and unlocks and replays the game to check.
